Diane Hetherington

Diane Hetherington is a senior consultant who develops executives, organization environments suitable for the 21st century and organization development consultants.  Diane believes leaders inspire—through their presence and actions—others to take on the challenges of change in turbulent environments.  She supports clients in mastering the transition from managing to leading.
Recently she facilitated a Leadership Laboratory for 62 participants in a Senior Executive Service Candidate Development Program for a major federal agency; designed and facilitated an opportunity for 50 senior managers from a large, influential association to align behind a common leadership philosophy and values; designed a Leadership Development Program—competencies, measurement, development opportunities—for an urban department of health.
She supported highly technical organizations in moving from “command and control” to team environments, resulting in increased employee participation and enhanced knowledge management.  She developed, trained and coached an internal staff to create in-house organization development capability for a 4,000-member agency.  She consulted bureau leadership in implementing a culture change following a stream lining process—clarifying and aligning direction, integrating new roles of leaders, managers, employees, and teams.  Diane designed and facilitated large scale/accelerated visioning conferences (300 participants) resulting in new direction for the participating organizations.  She designed a mentor handbook, training and program for a 4,000-member scientific/engineering organization.

Accomplishments

*Significantly reduced losses of productivity associated with changes in top-level leadership.  Smoothed the entry of numerous senior executives to positions of responsibility, thus reducing "downtime" lost from six months to less than six weeks.  Widely
credited with advancing new breakthrough strategies for achieving the transition of leaders in ways that enabled the new team "to hit the ground running."

*Realigned an important Division within a Fortune 500 hotel chain from a bureaucratic, single focus culture to a team oriented, customer responsive organization which has dramatically improved productivity and company credibility.

*Consulted to the CEO of an accounting firm and the company''s management directors on developing a Strategic Planning process to redirect the Firm''s competitive position and relationship to its customers.  Improvements were made in re-defining the reward system, aligning the organizational structure, and developing human resources in a more focused manner.

*Designed an assessment process and conducted human relations seminars for a team of "downed" nuclear technicians at an electric utility company.  The facility was shortly restored to full nuclear capability.

*Assisted in restoring morale and motivation from depressed levels throughout a large Department in an academic institution.  Methodologies included whole systems change (future search conference) and on-going team building activities.

*Designed and facilitated the resolution of a long standing leadership conflict that had affected the ability of the staff to function effectively.  A successful outcome of the conflict resulted in a restoration of team effectiveness through a re-definition of team roles and operating norms.
